Verdict

Bybit is the best derivatives exchange for active traders who want deep liquidity, fast execution, and copy trading — as long as you can legally access it. That's the catch. Bybit is banned in the US, has exited Canada, and operates under tightening EU and UK rules. If you're in a supported region and trade perpetuals or use copy trading, sign up. If you're in the US, Canada, or a restricted region, skip it — a VPN workaround will get your funds frozen at KYC or withdrawal. This is a trader's exchange with an availability problem, not a beginner's onboarding ramp.

Blocked on Bybit?

Trading365 users are pre-approved for Bybit and WEEX — with local regional workarounds and high-limit withdrawals. No extra steps required.

Recorded January 2025 — current fees and terms in the tables below.

What Bybit Actually Is

Bybit is a derivatives-first exchange. Its core product is perpetual futures — deep order books, tight spreads, up to 100x leverage on major pairs. It bolted on spot trading, copy trading, and Earn products later, but the platform is built around active leverage traders, not people buying and holding Bitcoin once a month.

The differentiator versus Binance and OKX is simpler execution and a copy trading system that actually works at scale. Binance has more markets and OKX has a stronger DeFi bridge, but Bybit's matching engine rarely chokes during volatility, and its copy trading feed is the deepest of the three. If you've been burned by slippage or platform freezes during a liquidation cascade on other exchanges, this is why traders migrate here.

The problem most reviews bury: availability. Where you live decides whether any of this matters. Skip to the availability section below if that's your dealbreaker.

Is Bybit Available Where You Live?

This is the question that actually determines whether you should read the rest of this review. Availability changed hard across 2024–2025, and outdated reviews will get you burned.

What "restricted" actually means in practice

"Restricted" is not "banned." It usually means you can hold an account but lose access to specific products — high leverage, certain perpetuals, or promotional bonuses. In the UK and parts of the EU, retail derivatives access is the first thing to disappear.

The VPN question comes up constantly, so here's the blunt answer: don't. You can create an account behind a VPN, but Bybit's KYC and withdrawal checks look at document nationality, IP patterns, and payment origin. US and Canadian users who slip through signup routinely hit frozen withdrawals when compliance flags the mismatch. You do not want your funds locked in an account you can't legally verify. If Bybit is banned where you live, use an exchange that legally accepts your region instead — see our top exchanges for US users.

Our Experience

We ran a real account through signup, KYC, a trade, and a withdrawal from a supported region.

Signup took under three minutes — email, password, done. Basic KYC (Level 1) cleared in about 15 minutes; the ID and selfie check went through automated review without a manual queue. That's faster than MEXC's verification, which sat pending for us for over an hour on a separate test.

We deposited USDT via TRC-20. The transfer confirmed in roughly two minutes and showed up before the block explorer even updated — Bybit credited on network confirmation without the padding delay some exchanges add.

The trade: we opened a BTC/USDT perpetual long at 10x. Order filled instantly at the quoted price with no visible slippage on a market order of moderate size. The interface during the position was clean — liquidation price, funding countdown, and PnL all visible without hunting through menus. This is where Bybit earns its reputation. It doesn't lag when it matters.

Withdrawal was the real test. We pulled USDT back out via TRC-20. It processed in about eight minutes end to end — no manual hold, no support ticket. That's genuinely fast for a withdrawal that isn't a stablecoin on its native chain.

Friction point: our second, larger withdrawal triggered a 24-hour security hold after we'd changed a security setting that day. Standard anti-fraud behaviour, but worth knowing — change your 2FA or address whitelist and expect a cooldown.

This suits active traders. It is not built for someone who wants to buy Bitcoin once and forget about it.

Pros & Cons

Everything here is tied to what we tested or what shows up repeatedly in documented user reports — not recycled marketing.

Stop the Fee Drain

High-volume traders are losing ~$2,000/mo on taker fees. Zero-fee structures exist — most traders just don't know how to access them.

Disclosure: Trading365 earns a commission if you sign up through our links. It doesn't change our take. Where our view differs from Bybit's marketing, we say so — for example, Bybit promotes "global access" while it's banned or restricted in several major markets, which we've stated plainly above.

The strong pros are real: execution held up under load, withdrawals were fast without manual holds under normal conditions, and copy trading is the deepest of any major exchange. The honest cons are also real: availability is a minefield, security holds trigger on account changes, and support can be slow when a ticket needs a human.

Fees, Security & Key Features

Fees

Bybit runs a maker/taker model. Spot trades sit at 0.10%/0.10% for standard users. Perpetual futures are 0.02% maker / 0.055% taker — competitive with Binance and cheaper than a lot of mid-tier exchanges.

Real example: a $10,000 taker market order on BTC perpetuals costs $5.50. The same trade on WEEX or MEXC can come in lower on promotional futures fees, and that's a fair point — if raw fee is your only metric, MEXC and WEEX undercut Bybit on futures.

So why choose Bybit anyway? Because at $10,000+ order sizes, execution quality costs more than fees. A fraction of a percent of slippage on a poorly matched order dwarfs a 0.01% fee difference. Bybit's order book depth means you actually get filled at the price you see. On thinner books, the "cheaper" exchange costs you more in slippage than it saves in fees. Fee-shopping makes sense for tiny orders; execution matters more once you're trading size.

Security

Bybit runs proof-of-reserves and maintains an insurance fund to cover liquidation shortfalls. In February 2025 it suffered one of the largest exchange hacks in history — roughly $1.5 billion drained from a cold wallet in a sophisticated attack. The critical detail: Bybit covered all user losses in full, maintained withdrawals throughout, and remained solvent. It was a serious breach, but the response — full reimbursement, no user haircut — is the outcome that matters when judging an exchange's reserves.

Features worth caring about

Copy trading is the standout. You browse verified traders by real track record and mirror their positions automatically. It's the best-executed version of this on any top-tier exchange. Earn products exist but aren't a reason to pick Bybit over anyone else — ignore them in your decision.

Real User Complaints & Reputation

The recurring complaints are worth taking seriously:

  • Withdrawal freezes after security setting changes — we hit this ourselves. It's anti-fraud behaviour, not theft, but it's real friction.
  • Account holds during compliance reviews — most common for users in grey-zone regions or those who trigger KYC mismatches. This is the VPN problem showing up in the wild.
  • Support response times — automated help is fine, but tickets needing a human can take days. This is the most consistent legitimate gripe.

Frozen-account reports cluster heavily around two situations: restricted-region access attempts and post-security-change withdrawals. They're far rarer for straightforward users in supported countries trading and withdrawing normally. Severity is low for the compliant majority, high for anyone gaming access.

Best alternatives if you failed the availability check

If Bybit is banned or restricted where you live, don't force it. Use an exchange that legally accepts you:

Choose Bybit if you're in a supported region and want the best execution-plus-copy-trading combo. Choose BingX if you want copy trading but Bybit won't take you. Choose MEXC if fees and altcoin access matter more than execution polish.

Final Verdict

Sign up if: you trade perpetuals or want serious copy trading, and you live somewhere Bybit legally operates.

Use an alternative if: you're in the US, Canada, or a heavily restricted region — no VPN trick is worth a frozen account. US and Canada readers should start with our top exchanges for US users. Skip it too if you're a buy-and-hold beginner who'll never touch leverage; Bybit's strengths won't matter to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Bybit available in the United States?+

No, Bybit is banned in the United States. There are no signups allowed, and any VPN workaround will fail at KYC or withdrawal, resulting in frozen funds. US traders should choose a compliant exchange instead.

Can Canadians still use Bybit?+

Bybit has exited the Canadian market, so it is no longer a supported region. Canadian users should not attempt to access it via VPN, as funds can be frozen during KYC or withdrawal.

What is Bybit best for?+

Bybit is best for active traders focused on perpetual futures who want deep liquidity, fast execution, and copy trading. It is built around leverage traders rather than beginners who buy and hold crypto occasionally.

How does Bybit compare to Binance and OKX?+

Bybit offers simpler execution and a copy trading system that works better at scale than both competitors. Binance has more markets and OKX has a stronger DeFi bridge, but Bybit's matching engine rarely chokes during high volatility.

What happens if I use a VPN to access Bybit from a restricted region?+

Using a VPN to bypass regional restrictions typically results in your funds being frozen when you attempt KYC verification or withdrawal. This makes VPN workarounds a serious financial risk rather than a viable solution.

Does Bybit support spot trading or only derivatives?+

Bybit is derivatives-first, with perpetual futures as its core product. It later added spot trading, copy trading, and Earn products, but the platform is primarily designed around active leverage traders.

Should beginners use Bybit?+

Bybit is not designed as a beginner onboarding ramp. It caters to experienced traders using perpetuals and copy trading, so newcomers may find a more spot-focused exchange easier to start with.
